Females show a submissive brownish purple color, although they too can color-shift to a beautiful pale lilac that shows off their darkened bars. A few hardy plants should take their nibbling although more often they will either uproot or destroy most plants. Sub-dominant males will display drab brownish purple coloration with some orange or yellow highlights. They require quite hard water with a pH of 8.0 - 9.0 and will do good with a temperature between 72 - 82F (22-28C) The zebra cichlids adult size is 6 inches (15 cm) and they normally live for about 5 - 10 years in captivity. unless you can id the hybrid if you cant then likely the will breed. the hybrid will likely breed with yellow labs, red zebra, and blue zebra. for the ratio i will do 1m/4f of each species. They don’t always display the stripes either. i see more hybrid fry on the way from the yellow labs and the red zebra. Despite their name, Red Zebra Cichlid they aren’t always red. They are endemic to Lake Malawi, and they can be found along the eastern coast of the lake. Dominant males will develop egg spots on anal fins and partial egg spots on the dorsal fin.
